Nicole Richie talks ’70s, Style and her love of Sydney

Her hubby Joel Madden may be on the hunt for the next big singing sensation on ‘The Voice Australia,’ but on Saturday it was time for Nicole Richie to take centre stage!

Sure to get the vote of Aussie fashion fanatics, the pint-sized style icon, decked out in leather flares, a mauve floppy hat and super sized Louboutins, to launch her new range from her ‘House of Harlow’ collection at David Jones Elizabeth Street Department Store in Sydney, Australia.

Debuting her latest handbag, jewellery and sunglasses line, the ‘Simple Life’ star was welcomed by hordes of local admirers who descended on David Jones desperate to get a glimpse of her (and her wardrobe!) in the flesh!

Known as much for being Paris Hilton’s BFF as her for her own superstar lineage, Nicole Richie is well-practiced in the art of self promotion.  Fittingly decked out in her ‘House of Harlow’ pieces, including a chunky gold and black ring and a fringed leather clutch perched under her arm, Nicole Richie signed autographs, posed for pics and spilled her fashion secrets!

In addition to talking about the inspiration for this collection, Nicole Richie provided David Jones shoppers with a few fashion tips and spoke at length about her fondness for Sydney: “I love the 70s,” she said. “Just in general I love the overall feel of that time, I love the idea that we’re able to mix fabrics and we’re able to mix colours and really just express yourself with fashion. And that’s something that I really try to do.”

And as we head into winter, she also gave her tips on looking good while embracing the cold: “I love a good pull-over and I’m a huge fan of scarves, I love scarves,” she added. “I think that the winter is actually a fun time of dressing for me because I think it’s the perfect time where you can just wear jeans and a t-shirt and accessorize. You can put on boots, a jacket and hats.”

And talking of hats, the mum-of-two said of her favourite item in her closet: “My key piece is the head-piece. But that’s very specific, not every girl wants to wear a headpiece, so I would say a necklace is something that can always dress up an outfit.”

And it sounds like Aussies could be seeing a lot more of Nicole Richie, who spoke highly of the land down-under: “I love Australia so much,” she said. “Sydney is my favourite city. I’m not lying, I’ve said that a million times, it really is my favourite city. I’m so happy to be here, everyone is so nice and lovely and its great.”
