Ripples Whale Beach

Given their setting, I find many water side restaurants in Sydney (and there are many) often rest on their laurels and let their view do the talking. Perfectly positioned on the foreshore of one on Sydney’s most beautiful surf beaches, Ripples Whale Beach could certainly fall into that trap, but luckily for diners, they do nothing of the sort.

Strolling straight from the sand with a group of girlfriends, we were met with a smile and that relaxed beach vibe that’s impossible to fake. Perhaps it was the breezy beachside setting or the chilled white wine, but that casual yet refined atmosphere took over the moment we sat down.

The fresh Modern Australian menu has a Mediterranean influence, illustrated through it’s delicious seafood dishes like the grilled mirror dory served with king prawn saffron risotto and hawkesbury cuttlefish (delicious!) For those that can’t get past a classic, I’d highly recommend the Atlantic salmon. Served with spinach and lemon polenta cake topped with Mediterranean relish, it’s the perfect balmy weather dish- fresh and full of flavour.

While the girls ordered desserts (white chocolate panna cotta with raspberry coulis…yum) I snuck a look around and spoke with the functions team. With both an upstairs loft space with elevated water views and the ability to book the entire restaurant exclusively for private functions and weddings, it’s certainly a venue worth considering for a special occasion.

Given today’s change of season (how is it already autumn?!), why not head north in search of warmer weather- or at least a dining experience that will leave you feeling like you’re on a weekend getaway? Find that post holiday calm without the travel hassle…bonus.
