I’ve seen this little ditty twice now both at Barrio Chino and the new Hinky Dinks, a 1950′s styled bar which has been styled so convincingly you could almost close your eye’s and take a step back in time.
Listed in the Savoy Cocktail Book in the 1930′s by it’s inventor barman Harry Craddock, the Corpse Reviver was an intended pick me up drink, one to bring back to life the dead or the hungover. With a dire word of warning however it’s maker Harry who is quoted as saying,
“Four of these in taken in quick succession will unrevive the corpse again.” – Harry Craddock
The Corpse Reviver #2
30ml Gin
30ml Cointreau
30ml Lillet Blanc (Craddock’s version asks for the now defunct ‘Kina Lillet’)
30ml Freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 drop (not dash) French or Swiss absinthe (you can substitute pastis if you must)
Method: Shake in an iced cocktail shaker and strain into a cocktail glass. Drop a stemless maraschino cherry into the bottom of the glass.
