Binoculars will be an essential accessory at this year’s Spring Carnival – not to watch the horse you bet on because you like the jockey’s outfit, but to spot an array of celebs that are hitting our shores.
And unlike previous years which brought us the likes of Paris Hilton, Carson Kressley and Snoop Dogg, this year the celebrities are not only people we want to see but they’re also people who embody the spirit of the event.
When you think Spring Racing you think fashion, fresh faces and fun – this year’s celebrities certainly fit that description.
On Crown Oaks Day, Sarah Jessica Parker will be in the Birdcage at Flemington as Crown’s special guest. SJP will be in town to promote her latest film I Don’t Know How She Does It. Her unique brand of style and trendsetting ability make this one outfit we don’t want to miss!
Crown’s general manager of public relations and Melbourne personality Ann Peacock is excited to welcome SJP to the event. “Not only is she a highly respected award-winning actress and producer, she is also a wife, mother to three children, fashion designer and perfumer. Ms Parker is a ubiquitous New York fashion icon and her attendance at the Crown Oaks Day, traditionally ladies’ day, will add to the international cache of the day.”
Derby Day brings us an equally exciting star who again has an enviable sense of fashion. Dita Von Teese will be in Melbourne launching her debut fashion capsule collection (one to watch) and is reported to be hitting the Birdcage while she’s here.
The collection is a collaboration with Lime Door Brands and CEO Michele Hamdorf recently told the Herald Sun that Von Teese would be strutting her stuff at Flemington. “Dita will be here. She will be here to launch the first part of her dress range,” he said. “She will be attending Derby Day. She will be in an A-grade marquee and she will be wearing one of her favourite pieces from the range.”
A number of sports stars are expected at the Carnival including Shane Warne and Liz Hurley who are tipped to be there on Cup Day, Anna Kournikova who is likely to be spotted at the Emirates marquee, Tour de France winner Cadel Evans and Melbourne Victory’s newest recruit Harry Kewell.
The list goes on with Hollywood diva Joan Collins, who has been confirmed for the Swisse marquee on Oaks Day and Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery has been approached to attend Derby Day as a guest of Channel 7.
